Race day is finally upon us! The day started out with the Heritage Exhibition where racecars from the '60s and on hit the track for a few passes to show that they've still got it.
At 2:30pm, the green flag dropped and the 2017 cars took off, all with one thing in mind: to stay in the race for the full 24 hours. Remember, this is endurance racing. It's not all about being the fastest (though that does help), it's about staying in the game until the very end.
The grueling race is off to a chilly start with weather dropping near the 40s, not something us Floridians are accustomed to. As day fades to night, the threat of rain is upon us, which should make for some spectacular racing! But only time will tell. Night racing is undoubtedly the best part of the 24 hours, and I cannot wait to get back on track and see it all go down! Stay tuned for my late night coverage after I hit the track again around 3am on Sunday to finish out the night and catch the sunrise.
